Linksys WMP11 Wireless Setup
One thing I did notice, though, was that when it was time for me to configure networking, Debian didn't seem to even know that my (PCI) wireless card existed. So I didn't have a connection to the Internet, which in itself was no big deal. The card is in /proc/pci with interrupt 10, but there's no interface for it.

So you have absolutely no other experience with wireless security and base *all* of your arguments on the one bad one you had. That's sort of like saying. It can be different in dual way communication situations with handshaking but to my knowledge no wireless alarm systems is designed that way.

All indications are that I've connected through the router wirelessly just as I can via the cable, but I'm not even able to ping the router via wireless since the SP2 update.
